I spent a few hours last night consolidating the approach to procedural materials that I had learned in the course. Still quite a way to go to finish, although I have done this course before.

I’m looking closely at photos of rocks, especially distant cliffs and mountains, zoomed in to get a good idea of what the texture actually looks like. I noticed with one mountain I looked at that no two adjoining pixels were the same colour, and the overall range of values was huge.

I found a use for my stone material. Downloaded the model from a free model site, applied the material and found a nice HDRI for background and lighting.
