I’ve been struggling to find direction for quite a while now. Environments are my main interest, but I’ve decided to spend some time on archviz, which is pretty much the polar opposite. Modeling seems to be my stumbling block. Not a lack of skill exactly, but a lack of confidence to just build something that I need. Hopefully a guided course on archviz will give me the confidence I need, and from there I can move outward to larger scenes again.
A lot of it comes down to detail. Almost every teacher says ‘more detail’. I started on that back alley scene recently, but the tutorial I’m following (on Gnomon) has so much detail – pipes, wires, garbage bins and bags – that almost no two pixels are the same. A bit like my kitchen bench – so much stuff on it that no two square centimetres are the same.
