I’ve been thinking about where to go next. I’m a bit daunted by my latest project, just so much to do. I’ve spent a lot of time modelling characters, and even did a workshop with Steven Stahlberg a few years ago. I did a workshop on Environmental Texturing with Leigh van der Byl, but the actual architectural models for that workshop were pretty simple. Truth is that detailed architecture is something I’ve had no experience with.
In a video I watched recently Andres Rodriguez, environment artist for Naughty Dog, was talking about portfolios and said it’s better to have one small, really well-done asset than many larger, less finished pieces. I might take this approach for a while. Focus on what are essentially props rather than scenes. I’m expecting some tutorials on Substance Designer to arrive soon, and will concentrate on making some really high quality smaller works.
